Blood Sugar Measurements

Does anyone know about the new measurement of blood sugar.? My OH, who has type 2 diabetes, now has been given a reading of 60, whereas his usual reading is about 7. The Nurse today didn't know much about it but he will see his special diabetic nurse next week and it will be explained then. In the meantime, I wondered if anyone has any info. Thanks.

My consultant told me how to convert "divide new measurment by 11 and the then double the result."

60 divide by 11= 5.4 x 2 = 10.8. Perhaps a little higher than it should be but wait till he sees the DSN before acting I suggest

I'm really interested in this as yesterday, after a series of tests, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. As yet don't really know a lot about checking sugar levels etc until I've seen the diabetes nurse some time in the next fortnight.

To convert from 'new' to 'old' add 24 to the new figure and divide the result by 11.

So 60+24=84
84 / 11 = 7.6

UK measured blood sugars in milimoles /litre.

The rest of Europe measures them in mgms /%

To convert his 7 in UK terms to mgms (rest of Europe) mutilple by 18.......that is accurate enough for a type 2 diabetic.

Rosie...that figure of 7, are you referring to millimoles\litre ( blood taken from finger prick) or HbA1C (taken from a vein)?

My guess is that the 7 in your case refers to millimoles/litre.

But if it's just being applied to the Hb1Ac, it doesn't change the ordinary blood test strip results that you do on a daily/twice daily basis?
