Gas Cooker Too Efficient!

We bought a new gas cooker in Comet's closing-down sale, and we like it very much, it's very controllable, except for not being able to very slowly simmer soups and suchlike - even the smallest ring, on the lowest setting, will quickly bring everything to the boil. My missis says there used to be some sort of 'spreader' gadgets that dissipated the heat somehow. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks....G

I have had a diffuser for years. But it still does not solve the waste of gas which is caused by an unnecessarily hot ring.

Was the hob purchased with the right jets fitted ? - we had to change ours from natural gas jets to bottled gas jets as the former would take your eyebrows off when lit.

My Whirpool gas hob has individual adjusters under each control knob so that you can adjust the minimum flame.

Thanks to you all - the cooker's a Belling. Their customer service people say it's OK, etc., from my description. My friend the Corgi central heating bloke says what am I moaning about? I suppose we just got used to the inefficient bog-standard performance of our old cooker. Thank you Heathfield, I will order a couple of those thingies you mention, and I thank you all again, much appreciated.

My OH's cooker is like that.
I take the knob all the way round, just past the highest setting where, if you are slow, you can regulate the heat right down to almost nothing.
It might be worth a try.

Thanks Mojo, I tried that and it works, brilliant! I didn't realize you could regulate the gas flow beyond the 'stop' thingy, and I expect you have to keep an eye on it in case it goes out altogether, but we can manage that. Thanks again!
