This is the best general forum site I've seen and there seem to be regular posters and a wealth of educated people willing to educate and discuss a variety of topics. And although I've not been an internet chatter since the 'Yahoo chatrooms' of 1998-2001, I'm finding myself drawn further and further into the community that exists here.

So my question is, how long have you been an ABer and a further question, if the thread is still available, post which was your favourite conversation on here? So that I might catch up on some of the wit and intellect that's come before me.

Glad to be apart of community AB :)

Further questions (sorry) - Do you think internet discussions are better than face-to-face debates?? Why?

IHI
I originally joined in 2007 and my fav thread was the teaspoon in the bath thread!!
I know this one because it was just over 5 years ago on 29th February 2008 - a leapyear so it is easy to remember. I haven't got a favourite thread. I like all of them except for the ones I don't like, which I ignore.

Why do we all spend so much time on here then? Is it just because it's easier to find people who want to talk about what you're interested in?? Why don't we seek these conversations out in life?
I do seek this conversations out in real life
I have discovered that people in general do not want to hear about your problems or to talk about them. They just want to tell you about theirs. So I come on to this website to air a few problems to people who will read them and take the trouble to answer them. Which up to the present time they have always done. It is a lovely site with lovely people and there you have it!! Easy-peasy!!
I joined in 2008, initially to get quiz and crossword answers - it soon gets addictive :-)
I've been an ABer since about 2002 but changed names twice cos I forgot my password!! I've learnt so much on this site and as I live in France this keeps me up on what's happening in the UK and mainly how the British people feel about things.
Hope I am not mistaken here - but if you click onto the AVATAR - you will get the information you want re how long is an ABer on.
I joined in 2009 when I was still living in Spain.
2007 for me. Originally for crosswords as with so many others here.
I try to help in one particular topic, but I've learnt far more from others than I've ever given out as advice.
January 2007, came on looking for some crossword answers and gradually drifted into other rooms, as regards to a favourite thread there's one that still makes me smile, I shall say no more then sweetcorn anybody who's been here for a while knows the one I mean.
I have regenerated twice after forgetting my passwords since approx 2008/9.
Can't imagine not getting my daily AB fix.

Post when and if but enjoy the variety on here.
2004, can't understand where the years go. My favourite conversations were always with whiffey, search the name and you'll get it

This is good stuff, so people have been here for a while. I guess if you live abroad it's a great tool!

@Connemmara - Its a damn sight easier taking a spot poll of willing posters than hunting down all the AB user avatar informations... Plus as coccinelle says, they've changed avatar a few times so the age of the avatar and the duration of the user may differ.

I'm amazed that some people have been using it for over 10 years! I feel so young in comparison :)
You've done a lot on here since you joined, though - I like your avatar!
I joined in 2006. There was one particular thread where we all pretended to be our cats and discussed our owners. Got a feeling it was Wolf who started that thread. It was very funny. Loads more but that one sticks out.
This quip from Ethel sticks in my memory, and still makes me chuckle...

A pink one, truly, it's like a giant marshmallow.

(Probably not funny to anyone else - just me with a daft sense of humour).
Tigger I think I might have been part of that thread!

I joined in 2006. There's been some stunningly funny threads, I couldn't possibly pick out one. Every now and again there is a good humoured thread that has me in tears of laughter.
Glad you remember it BM. It was funny.

Ethel was great. She used the phrase "what the ecky peck" once and I was in stitches. I love that phrase. Silly things amuse me ;o)
