More About Dietrich, Count von Hulsen-Haseler
From your Q&A on Kaiser Wilhelm II:
"Another senior courtier, Dietrich Count von Hulsen-Haseler, chief of the military cabinet, died of a heart attack while dancing in a tutu and feather hat for the kaiser."
The good Count was an accomplished dancer, and it was not uncommon for him to dance for the assembled court (as long as Wilhelm's wife was not present). The night he died, he was wearing a pink tutu with a wreath of roses. He dropped dead of a heart attack, and even though it was hopeless, the Kaiser summoned two doctors and made them try for several hours to resuscitate the poor Count. Rigor mortis set in; he had to be cut out of the ballet outfit and sewn into his uniform for the funeral.
Not exactly who I would have selected as an ancestor, but we don't get to choose, do we? On the other hand, it gives the lads a lot to think about when they ask my nieces on a date.
