My mother in law has one on her bottom, she is at her cancer unit in 2 days time where I'm sure they will help. But until then should she use sudocrem or savlon? She says its like a blister so we are assuming its a bed sore as she has sat in a chair for over a year she only moves for the loo or to go to bed. TIA ..

Savlon it is chris thanks a lot xx
if it looks like a blister it could be a friction blister, often seen in the elderly, unlikely to be a pressure sore as she is able to get up and move, just getting up and moving will usually prevent pressure sores. When applying any cream to a suspected pressure sore, be very careful not to massage it, but to just rub the cream very lightly on to the skin, massaging a pressure sore can do a lot of damage. You should immediately inform a GP if you suspect a pressure sore, remember that the damage is done on the inide, if you are seeing damage on the outside, it is far worse on the inside!
*inide=inside
ratter im afraid that youre wrong, even if a person gets up to go to the loo but are sat all the rest of the time they can still get pressure sores
No Gina, I am right "will usually prevent pressure sores" I have been dealing pressure sores for years and have plenty of experience. I didnt say impossible I said "will usually" there are often other factors involved like age, weight, skin viability and diet, health etc.
Most important thing is to relieve the pressure to prevent further damage so if she can swap between lying on her sides instead of sitting it wwould help.
and i still disagree, i like you have been dealing with them for years as well, but the chances of it being a pressure sore is till high if they dont move except for the loo and bed
OK Gina ;-)

Ratter, Rowan and gina Thank you all for your replies, I have'nt seen it but she will (I hope) tell the cancer unit tomorrow. We can't get her to change positions or move out the bl00dy chair so I hope they give her some sort of cushion. Her weight is normal but not for long as she eats and drinks very little. thanks again..
arwyn, they will be able to give her a special cushion that will be a great help to her.

Ratter I'v just rang and passed all this information on, she thought she could cure it herself but now understands she can't. Thanks again.
Gosh, yeah the 1st thing she needs is a pressure cushion. Poor thing. I would also ask a nurse to have a look at it. Sudocrem is good as is Cavilon barrier spray.
