I've recently discovered the vegetable peeler and I can't believe how blimmin great they are! Saves so much time, don't get cramp in my hand from using a knife, and much less waste.
I'm also eating loads of veg now, as I just want to peel with it. Not sure how I've gone all these years with not knowing about it... :-/

What kitchen 'gadgets' could you not do without?

My speed peeler (inherited from my nan)

Plastic bowls. 70p in Asda and I use them every day.

Can-opener!
Question Author
Speed peeler? It that like an electric version of the basic peeler?

Ah yes, the plastic bowl. I use them quite a lot too, and plastic cups every day.
Tin opener.
My good lady Carakeel does come in very useful.
Question Author
My Nan used to have an electric can opener.
My La Pavoni espresso machine ... bloody expensive, but used every single day. Would replace it in a heartbeat if it died.

RATTER!! As much as that made me laugh, I can see you being in trouble now... :P
It's just a super duper peeler. My nan had it for as long as I can remember. It must be at least 30 years old.
Question Author
I think tin opener will be a popular choice.

SunnyD, I've never had a coffee machine. My Mum's got one of those pod ones, which is quite nice. Only about £50 I think, so not as good as your's obviously :-)
I use whisks a lot.
My pressure cookers, not gadgets but you know...
Does kettle count? I need mine.
Question Author
Does anyone else name their gadgets? I've been using a knife to peel spuds for the past 10/15 years. His name was Arthur.
My Mum always used a knife too, so that's why I've only just discovered the peeler.
Actually, another thing I use quite often is my trusty bottle opener. Given to me by none other than Mr Rae, actually. Most of my bottles are screw top, but I use it to open beer quite a lot - not wanting to sound like an alchy.
agree with MadMen - have also just discovered peelers - never got on with them before as I'm very left handed but daughter found one I can use - it's brilliant. Also love my silicon steamer.
I have a bottle opening on my fridge door. That's handy.
Question Author
I can't remember the last time I used a whisk. I'm not much of a baker though. In fact, I'm not even sure I own a whisk.... hang on...

Nope. No whisk. Just a little mini kids one.

A kettle is not a gadget.

Not used a pressure cooker. Not even sure what one is.
I've recently bought a steamer though, and use that lots.
Proper cork-screw.
My cheese slicer and potato masher, can't get the mash smooth enough when I use a fork it comes out lumpy.
Question Author
Never got on with cheese slicers. I like my cheese quite thick though... :)
