Low Sodium Diet
9 Answers
Following from my threads from a few weeks ago about high blood pressure and on borderline of medication, I'm going for the low sodium and more exercise path to see if that will make a difference. I see that there are alternatives to salt but 'needs advice from my GP' who I won't be seeing for another month. When cooking for myself I can cut down on salt but if cooking for others I'd need to do something seperate. Can I just use one of these alternatives?
I'd like anybody's advice on low sodium diets; I know boosting my potassium levels will be good at the same time.

I saw suggestions about a low sodium diet for Menieres disease and once I started checking labels it was quite eye opening! It's used for flavouring in so many things.
Eating as unprocessed food as possible will help and cooking without adding salt for flavour while cooking or as a condiment on the table.
Have you been given a guideline amount of sodium as a daily limit? That would help with reading labels.

My GP is more or less letting me find out what's best for me and didn't want to put me on a stict diet which I mightn't keep. I'm going for a 1500mg daily dosage limit to see what this does. Hopefully I won't get as high but won't go over 0,14g sodium per serving. Thankfully I've never used salt at the table and don't over salt cooking but I do (did!) like smoked fish, wholewheat bread and nuts!! All healthy foods but not now.....
