Anybody encounterd this before? Just got back from a friends funeral After having a talk with his wife, She was telling me to have him dressed & buried in a suit- of the family's choice & if anybody wanted to go view him in the chapel of rest, It would cost £75 for the dressing & £75 for the viewing. Surley this cant be right ? On the top of the 4 figure sum . They had already spent to lay her husband to rest? XX

There was definitely a "dispursements" fee listed on my uncle's bill. Don't know the exact figure, but there was definitely an "undefined" charge. Should've been more thorough I guess, on what we were paying for.
Sad though it is, at the end of a day, undertakers are running a business and want your cash. :o(

I'm not at all clued up on what actually goes on, but I went to see my friend's husband recently. He was already "ready for viewing" as my friend had been the day before.
I turned up and asked to see him. They told me they would "get him ready for me" and I sat for about 20 minutes in the reception, before somebody called me through. They must've been doing something to him while I waited. Is it possible that they return the body to a cold-store between each viewing? That would account for extra costs.
I noticed that he was made up with quite a lot of facial make-up too. Perhaps that gets touched-up between viewings? I'm only guessing here, but it would explain the "extra" charge for viewing.
