Recovery After Operation

Hi

can anyone give me some idea of recovery after an op, its to remove a tumour on the salivary gland and i'm just wondering what sort of time scales to full mobility - as an HGV driver (who does the roping and sheeting)

It would depend on whether the person has to have ongoing treatment I suppose, for example, chemo if the tumour was cancerous, or skin grafts to cover the defect left by tumour excision.
If it were a small non cancerous tumour then probably two weeks would be more than sufficient recovery time.

its cancerous but the cancer is contained within the tumour.

Of all goes well.......no infection etc......back to work within a month......5 weeks at the most.

Fluffy...I bet from your answer that it is a Parotid Tumour......in which case I stick by my 5 weeks, but if it is a Submandibular Gland then perhaps a month would be more realistic.

also depends on age, fitness. pain control. eating/drinking. and how bored he gets ?

anne he's 47 and overweight but fit... his job is very physical so in one sense he's fit but his big fat beer belly certainly doesn't help his health. he is on medication for high blood pressure and is still smoking the stupid *******

this is how it was described - the tumor is on the duct in the salivary gland, long name begins with p.... apparently it is close to or attached to the nerves so they have to be cut in the surgery. the cons has said he should be out within 2 days and 3 weeks for recovery

I hope its a quick recovery for him. I remember having a hernia repair a few years ago and thinking I would be back to work in a few day. I could hardly walk for 3 weeks and then another 3 weeks before I was fit for work. Mind you, I was told it would be keyhole surgery, they must have had a key the size of a shovel! I had a 6 inch scar!!

a colleague was back in the harness with this
in six weeks.

I wanted more than six weeks off after a hipe replacement and was told I would be investigated if I had an Elizabeth Taylor like nervous breakdown.

Benign not malignant.
