is this a daft idea? I started taking multi-vitamins on friday and started with a cold on sunday, a few folk have told me it often happens like that, and to be honest i have heard the same thing before,

I cant see vitamins giving you a cold. ( virus )
Unlikely.
No, as annasquith says, colds are caused by viruses. The only link i can think of is that the vitamins are altering your immune system. But they should help, rather than hinder.
No taking multi vits can't give you a cold and won't make you more likely to get one. It is however a common human feature to remember all the times that an action preceded a consequence and to forget or ignore all the times when that consequence did follow that action....Like "It always rains when I clean the windows"
.....in the same way that people swear that having the flu jab gave them the flu. It's called co-incidence!
It's unlikely Dot, maybe you're developing hayfever? It can turn up later in life and the pollen is particularly bad this year.

Woof, this is a really nice statement and should probably be plastered across the site :)
except I got it wrong and missed out the "not" :-( The last phrase should read
"and to forget or ignore all the times when that consequence did NOT follow that action....Like "It always rains when I clean the windows"

any chance of an edit please Ed?
Has someone been sneezing and coughing over your vitamin pills ?

Hi dot I have been taking multivitamins plus 1 cod liver oil capsule every day for years and no side effects . luckily I am on no other medication
Coincidence...there's a nasty cold still doing the rounds.
You are having what is called a healing crisis you get worse before getting better!

The best option ditch the pills and eat a balanced diet, lots of fruit and veg and get out into the fresh air as much as possible.

Fresh air is free.
Hi Dotty......Taking vitamin supplements are not going to damage your health but I still wonder whether they are a complete waste of money.

i eat nothing but fruit and veg pretty much and get plenty of fresh air, it's the customers coming in sneezing all over us and handing us dirty money that spreads the cold virus. I get a bad cough and cold a couple of times a year.

oh and the smart arse that said 'it's unlikely Dot, maybe you're developing hayfever? It can turn up later in life and the pollen is particularly bad this year.' can go swivel cheeky git.....oh yes that was the ed lol
Did you ever go on that bicycle ride?
