There were times, when I was in drinking mode, if I was sitting quietly in my room I'd think I'd catch sight of something moving just at the edge of vision.
'Dear God', I thought, 'I'm getting the DTs'.
I needn't have worried. When I started to hear rats gnawing through the floorboards in the quiet of the night I knew it wasn't the DTs but it was time to move to a new flat.

How long ago was that, FGT? I'd thought cold turkey for a drinker was very dangerous. Nowadays a doctor would prescribe medications to deal with the worst of the withdrawl symptoms.
