recently my both knees are really painfull and weak when bending, one knee in particular is very bad and when i stand on one leg the knee will not support my weight and go from beneath me, my doc says its all to do with access drinking alcohol lol lol i asked her how this could be and she told me that drinking in excess damages the bones ? rubbish me thinks, because i pulled my back very badly in work a few months ago and she told me that was alcohol related ....anyway is there anything i can do with my knees to mend them ? im on omega 3 and cod liver oil capsules now but apparently these can cause cancer !!! ? my god i might as well just be done with now lol seriously i need to try to mend this problem now, dont want to be hobbling about on walking stick , im 46 by the way, used to do loads of running about 7 mile everyday on treadmill plus weights but havent been to gym in few months, im really concerned about them but no piont in going to see doc again is there ?

My knees buckle when I have been drinking to 'access'. It's just normal.
Probably the running wot done it. Doctors may prescribe cortisone injections.

Well there we go..................no, there is no point in seeing a medic again as you seem not to have much faith in medical opinion.

Try Body&Soul in AB.......they will have plenty of advice.
I have exactly the same problem with my knees as you describe.
I do not drink so it can't be that. My GP gave me painkillers but they are not making much difference. He says that it is rheumatism but you seem a bit young for that.I always thought it was an old age complaint.
Sounds like you need a different G.P, don't put up with your painful weak knees just because of one idiot Doctor.
Zacs - cortisone injection didn't do anything for my shoulder!
//omega 3 and cod liver oil capsules now but apparently these can cause cancer //

Source of that please.
arwyn.....an expert are you?...an idiot doctor?........bit disrespectful I would say.
Sqad this wasn't a *FAO Sqad* so anyone can give an opinion, you bullied me once but I won't ever allow you to again.. Oh and you don't own Body and Soul, not all questions are for you only.
Thank you Sqad.
arwyn....whoever is the OP, whoever is the poster, one has the right to question the description of a professional person as an "idiot."

That i will continue to do.
Sqad glad you are around, I wanted to ask you about the Omega 3 dilemma. Do you believe that it can give men a higher chance of getting prostate cancer? Me and Hubby have been taking them for over 25 years ........... but it has worried me a little to read that report. What is your opinion and should he stop taking them please?
Sqad isn't an "idiot doc" he is a very helpful one ........ ;)
Ann........my personal opinion.

This study applies only to the "aggressive" prostate cancers and these are less than 5% of the "normal" (for want of a better word) cancers.

Me? I can see no good reason for anybody taking omega3 capsules....just my opinion.
Running is definitely bad for your knees. You should take up cycling. If you are overweight that could be the problem. Also, not being nosy, but how many units of alcohol a week do you drink? Too much red wine is supposed to be bad for the joints. You're far too young to have this problem.
Ann...arwyn wasn't calling me "idiot", she was calling beezaneez doctor as "idiotic."
Sqad is that just *medical professionals* or any *professionals*?

beezaneez sorry this dispute on your thread.
Running can certainly damage your knees. It might be better to go swimming if you can. Your doctor seems to think you have an alcohol problem anyway. Only you will know if he is wrong. In which case, let him know exactly how much alcohol you drink, as he can treat you more effectively if you give him an accurate history.
I thought Omega 3 was for healthy hearts and to prevent joint pain?
