Hi,
Last night my daughter [16] had what she thought was one of her migraines. She has maybe 5 or six a year and these always end in her being sick and sleeping for about 14 hour.
Last night however she was repeatedly sick, shaking violently and really quite ill [she must have been she slept in my bed bless her]. This morning she felt better but just now am angry rash has appeared on her neck.. it doesn't disappear under a glass. That said she feels better with in herself but still has a headache.
Doctors or not?
She's not been out in the sun in the last few days as we haven't had any. Would a meningitis rash show with no other symptoms though?
I've just given her two paracetamol and a Piriton and put her to bed [though I can hear on the phone. We have been painting in the house and I wondered if she may have managed to rub something on her neck.
I'll give her an hour an if it's still there or grown... we will be off!
Is she sensitive to light? I'd get her checked out for peace of mind. No doctor is going to mind a worried parent getting advice. Better safe than sorry.
I don't think it's whether the rash disappears under the pressure from a glass it's whether the colour fades from it. As you say, see what happens in the next hour.
It is almost certainly consistent with a diagnosis of migraine.
Odd that the rash doesn't disappear.
If she was my child, aged 16, i would monitor the situation for the next few hours and the reassess the situation re.drowsiness and unable to stand bright lights.
My step father's little boy died of meningitis, he had a temperature, no rash initially but a headache and nausea. He went to bed at night and was unrouseable in the morning so they took him straight to hospital and died in the afternoon:(
I agree with you, ummmm. Have been to a&e twice with my youngest with a non-disappearing rash. Both times the rash went from two pinpricks to complete body within couple of hours. He was very ill.
