Acupuncture.

I'm having acupuncture tomorrow, in the hope it will help my anxiety and also insomnia.
I'm *extremely* nervous about this, to say the least, and was just wondering if anyone know where the needles will be inserted?
Has anyone here had it done and would you say it's a pleasant experience?
Are there any possible side-effects?
Thanks in advance.

Baby...just feel sorry for those who won't even give anything but conventional medicine a try. I had years of awful cystitis cured by homeopathy. Of course that was all in my mind according to the friend whose life is being ruined by the same condition but won't try anything other than the antib's from her GP. There are more things in heaven and earth,...

It was AMAZING! :-)
Amazing, informative, totally freaky and most importantly, calming.
He was here for a couple of hours and spent a lot of that time talking to me, finding out about my anxieties and what causes them. He taught me a few coping methods and we went through some breathing exercises too. I honestly don't think I've ever felt so relaxed around someone I'd only just met... it's usually the complete opposite!
The needles themselves were nothing like I'd imagined. So many different sensations in different places. I had one in the side of my hand, which after 30 minutes just went completely dead and I couldn't open my fist, two on the opposite hand and then two more in my leg - which was the most sensitive and every time he 'tweaked' it I would get this little electric shock, which bizarrely felt good.
I'm well aware that it could just be a placebo, and I'm not saying I'm 100% convinced it can sort me out completely, but I spent the rest of the day feeling on top of the world. I was, and still am, buzzing.. something I haven't felt for a some time!
I'm finding myself doing the breathing techniques he taught me without even thinking about it, which is something I've always struggled with in the past.
I'm seeing him again next week and he's going to do some more acupuncture and also reiki, so that will be something new again and hopefully beneficial.
Thanks to all that offered advice. I was so nervous about having it done and having to meet someone new, but I'm so so glad I went through with it, and didn't cancel at the last minute, like I usually do.
Thanks again :-)

Whoohoo! Been looking out for you, Baby and so happy it went well for you.
Of course there are those who will say it's a placebo effect...it's not but who cares..... if it works.
It is amazing when something works so well and you feel good after a long time of not.
My first, reluctant experience, was for severe leg pain....it worked within hours and I was so grateful.
As I have probably said, acupuncture would always be my first call for any sort of diagnosed pain.
Well done and good wishes that things carry on improving...x

Gness, well that's my way of looking at it too. I was telling my dad about it this morning and he kind of had that look on his face as if to say "yeah, yeah", but like you say, who cares. It's made me feel great and for once I'm feeling really positive about things :-) x
Soapnumty, thanks very much. x
RR, I'm now really looking forward to it! :-) x

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio.....and what a pity not to explore them all!
Onwards to better health and a lovely life, Baby....♥

Thanks Pixie :-)
I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday and it all went a bit Pete Tong. I was due to go to a social gathering, with people I had not seen for years, and my nerves got the better of me.
I don't even know what it was I was dreading so much, but I couldn't even do my make-up properly as my hands were shaking so much! :-/
I couldn't go through with it, and ended up spending the afternoon with my family instead, but after that it was kind of a downward spiral and I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with high anxiety. Only managed a few hours sleep too, so I feel a bit disappointed and down heartened, but that's with myself and not the acupuncture.
I'm seeing him again tomorrow, so I only have to hold out for 24 hours now and I'll be back to feeling as great as I was on Friday and Saturday.
He did say it might take 'a few sessions', but I'm just disappointed that I allowed myself to get to that point again.
Anyway, onwards and upwards.
