Scolded my thumb on hot oil. I've obviously run it under cold water but this mother hurts like hell. Is there anything I can put on it to sooth it a bit?
Sorry I only just saw this. I wanted to say that you need to have it in water for at least ten minutes - and cold - not very cold or iced according to first aid guidance.
Used to burn my fingers when smoking ,the fag stuck to the lip and I'd slide the fingers down to get burn between the fingers .I used to hold it a the fire as long as I could bear .it did the trick .once nearly fell out with with a first aid instructor about this .he said it does not work .i said do you or did you ever smoke .he said no so I told him then you are no expert on it
no need for it to be running JNO. I have been a first aider for past 30 years and we are taught that according to severity of the burn the duration of holding in water can be much longer than people expect. 10 minutes is a minimum to be effective on a small burn/scald.
As a school cook I'm forever catching my arm/hands on the oven/a hotpan etc. I run the area under cold water for at least 10mins (if I have the time, if not I keep running area under cold water inbetween jobs) when its calmed down and I've gone home I slather it in sudocrem and keep applying as and when.
I believe cold water is the key as it gets the heat out.
