My friend gets shakiness every now and again. Is this linked with vitamin deficiency or low blood sugar? He may have it for a day on and off and then it goes away. What causes shakes?! (He doesn't drink!)

Sounds like low blood sugar to me. Could be something else though.
Would he not go and see his doctor?
I get it too from time to time, with me it's low blood sugar.
It could be a multitude of reasons and your brief resume is not adequate enough to offer a presumptive diagnosis.

How old his he?
Any underlying medical conditions?
What is shaking...the whole body of just a part?

See, what I mean...........

He's 34, no medical conditions but does smoke, borderline underweight, otherwise healthy. Shakiness is all over. Jittery, I think?
Thanks Scarlett, that is very helpful.

This does not sound like an organic disease ...eg diabetes, Parkinson's etc but a nervous disorder, a Psychosomatic disorder well outside of my expertise.

See you GP.
How much caffeine do they drink?
overactive thyroid.
Does he also feel light-headed? That often happens also with low blood sugar.
MrG's family have what I'm told is Familial Tremor. Some have it all the time and some like my daughter only occasionally.
