Just need some advice or recommendations regarding painkillers used for Period Pain... as the months go by I am suffering more every month (I am 43). Just feel totally washed out for 3 days every month. Not just the usual dreaded cramps, but lightheaded, NO energy. I take Ibuprofen every 4 hours but after about 2 hours I am literally waiting to take more. Somebody suggested painkiller with Codeine included? Also my monthly cycle has been getting shorter over 18 months i.e. every 23 days now. Ladies please share any advice as I am dreading every month now and plan my life around those 3-4 days. Thanks x

Lol Jordyboy - a work colleague suggested this site, so I am a new member. I will make an appointment to see my doctor... have been putting it off but it's getting silly. Thanks everyone
Well the pill certainly is possible, I am 45 and take cerazette - no periods at all. Some of my friends of a similar age have had the mirena coil inserted and that stopped their periods as well.
Piggy, I had exactly the same problem, I was coming on every 16 days, and terrible pain.
Went to see GP, he put me on Cerrazette, its a pill for more mature ladies, after taking it for a couple of months, it stopped my periods completely,
I haven't had one now for well over 5 years.
It worked for me.
My sister and a few of my friends are on it and it has had the same effect on them aswell. X

Thank you ladies... I have booked an appointment with doc tomorrow.. I will ask him and discuss whether he can prescribe this for me...just been looking online. I don't smoke am not overweight so fingers crossed. No more periods...blisss !!
Have you thought of having the merina coil fitted. This can make your periods less painful. Your GP can advise you.

When this happened to me at the same age (including the flushes) it was commencement of the menopause and if this is the case there are other things that the doc might suggest.

Squad I am so sorry... just looked up at your comment. Thank you for your advice. Stupid of me to think males don't understand. Are you a GP?

Try the implant.

one of the possible side effects of the mirena coil is cramps for the first few months until it settles in and does its thing.
I'm 50 (sob) but due to either get it changed or removed completely in 2015.

Used to suffer dreadfully from back-ache at that time of the month but have been pain and period free for a few years now.

Good luck, let us kow how you get on x

Thank you Albaqwerty... I don't think I would like the Coil somehow...I hope he prescribes the Progesterone only pill for me and thank you I will keep you updated - I am new to this do you start a new thread or just continue on the end of this one to keep all of you updated, as you have all been so kind to try to help me?

I have marked SQUAD best answer. I don't want him to feel that I was ignoring his post... Hopefully I have redeemed myself !?

sssh, it's sqad, he doesn't do excesses, so the 'U' is excess! :-)

Welcome to the site, full of fun, info and lots more.

Either you can start a thread along the lines of 'Update on the Period Pain' or just add to this thread, whichever you feel like doing
It's probably best to start a new thread to update us, piggy, if you are coming back in a few days' time. Otherwise you can subscribe to your own thread if you want to use this one, but I'd advocate starting a new one.
