A week ago the amount of money taken out of my bank account to pay the T-Mobile phone bill was slightly more than I was expecting so, checking what was going on, I found that I was being charged £1.25 every Friday morning for the previous 6 weeks by Buongiorno Pl.

I like to think that I'm very careful when it comes to preventing anything like this, particularly when there is the possibility of money being involved, so I am not aware of having given permission for any phone number access, and a call to T-Mobile seems to have put paid to this scam by blocking such 3rd-party calls. I would have assumed that these would be blocked by default but apparently not, and it's only because I don't use the phone much that I noticed that it was happening.

Has this happened to any other ABers? Do you check your phone bill to make sure that you're not paying for unexpected charges?

We always check our monthly bills, absolutely.

i will going back to payg next year when my current contract ends
It's almost unheard of - me going over my monthly allowance, so if my bill is more than my usual £21 per month, I'll look into it.
I check everything. Although when someone was using my debit card it was Amazon who alerted me about it. Fortunately for me, I have an account with them and they sent me an email to ask me if I had ordered something I didn't normally buy to be sent to a different address. I was able to contact my bank and get my debit card cancelled. So after that I became even more careful with the items on my statement. And the same applies to my phone.
I think it's a mistake to be on anything other than PAYG , £10 lasts me up to 3 months. Then often I don't put credit on it for weeks at a time, If they want me they can call me that's my motto. I can go weeks without making a phone call.
Do you get texts from T Mobile stating how much your bill is? They text all of their customers (approximately 10 days before the money is debited from their account). Do you get those texts and do you check your balance?

I do get the text each month telling me when the bill is ready but I must admit that I didn't bother going on-line to check the amount because there hadn't been any problems before. So now I have started checking regularly, at least once a week.

However, because such usage by a 3rd-party is not blocked by default and I did not receive any notification that somebody wanted to set it up, there is no way I could have known about this charge until after it had happened the first time and the account had been debited. Maybe I was fortunate that it was only £1.25 a week and not a lot more, but losing any money through what I consider to be unauthorised actions by a company doesn't feel lucky.
