I have got a bright red rash at the top of my legs, in the groin area. It is dry and not weeping. It is not scaly, as in psoriasis. The rash seems to be under the skin. I have had it for about a month. I am very careful to keep it clean and wash the area with Aveeno oat shower cream and apply almond oil which makes the surface a little softer. I am careful to keep the area dry and have experimented with medicated talc application too. I use gentle washing liquid and wear cotton underwear.
Is there anything I can do as a home treatment? I don't want to visit the doctor.

Why don't you want to see the doctor, particularly as you've had it for a month? It's silly not to.

I have a soreness in that area sometimes, and use Vaseline to keep it moist (the opposite of what you are doing). I'd go to the doctor if it had been there for a month.
From your description (although you haven't mentioned itching) sounds like a fungus infection.
Are you a diabetic?

Pop to the chemist and buy a tube of Lamisil and use twice daily.
Hi Sqad.Sorry to but in but I have an "invisible " rash i.e nothing to see but it itches quite a bit and I can feel small lumps like goose flesh under my skin.Any idea what it could be?
It sounds like 'dhobi itch' which is a fungal infection that takes hold in skin that is moist. It is the same or similar to 'athletes foot'. The simplest superficial treatment is 'Lamisil 1% gel' which can be obtained from your local pharmacy without prescription and is the most effective antibiotic for this infection. It may take a couple of weeks to clear up. If it persists then you will need a prescription for an oral antibiotic which should do the job reliably.
danny....how long has it been troubling you, are you on any medication, have you any underlying medical condition and where are your "invisible " rash symptoms?
Danny, if it is in an area that is permanently moist (groin, armpits, soles of feet)then it could be the early stages of 'dhobi itch', the redness will probably appear later .
Loads of medication - Bimataprost eye drops, Carbocistine & Symbicort & Tiotropium bromide for C.O.P.D. Clopidogrel & Lanzoprazole (TIA a couple of monyhs ago)Indapamide for hypertension. Itching occurs at back of shoulders, top of chest and arms.
blimey danny........could be anything....watching the Rugby at the moment, but will give it my consideration at half time.
Thank's Sqad
Danny, sorry about that......England doing well.

Well it could be any one of the drugs that you are taking, but in my opinion, the main culprit is Clopidogrel which could be substituted by another drug.
However this decision should be made by your GP.
Try an athlete's foot powder if it is dhobi itch, available in pharmacies or supermarkets. I've done this in the past and had quick relief from the itch.

It is not itchy and I am not a diabetic.
Thank you for your suggestions. I will try Lamisil just in case it is a fungal infection.
If it is quite vivid, could it be something like pityriasis rosea? I had it and it was very vivid, had it round the tops of my legs and down my thighs and on my arms too.
Thanks Sqad, I will see my GP

The rash is continuous, as opposed to being in bumps. It is still vivid in colour, but doesn't look like the pictures for pityriasis rosea, like you had Eve.
