Blood Test

I went to the Docs last week as I've been suffering from severe acid reflux, I've had it on and off for years and was previosly prescribed Omeprazole. I have again been given the same drug (which works) and was sent for a blood test, well the surgery has just rang for me to make an appointment as something has come up on the test that needs me to see the Doc.

Any ideas what it might be?

It could possibly be for H.pylori..........which may indicate a stomach ulcer which could be treated by a course of antibiotics.

Just a guess.

Can you have a stomach ulcer with no symptoms, I get IBS now and then and of course the acid but that's about it, I rarely vomit.

You do get symptoms of an ulcer......you get acid reflux.
However, I may be "barking up the wrong tree."

Helicobacter pylori is by far the commonest cause of an ulcer and it is a bacterium.

This probably accounts for about 90% of gastric ulcers.

I had h.pylori but no ulcer. Had a course of antibiotics but wasn't retested to see if it had gone.

I had h pylori with ulcer after the treatment the problem did settle considerably unfortunately I have a hiatus hernia so still get a degree of reflux and pain if I am not careful. I had the h pylori about 8 years ago had another endoscopy a couple of weeks ago. No sign of any h pylori or ulcer just the hiatus hernia. So the treatment does work.

I thought h. Pylori was a breath test? Don't know what I'm thinking of then...

Breath test (called the carbon isotope-urea breath test or UBT):

Up to 2 weeks before the test, the patient must stop taking any antibiotics, bismuth-containing medications such as Pepto-Bismol, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
The patient swallows a special substance containing urea (a waste product the body produces as it breaks down protein) that has been made harmlessly radioactive.
If H. pylori are present, the bacteria convert the urea into carbon dioxide, which is detected and recorded in the patient's exhaled breath after 10 minutes.
This test can identify almost all people who have H. pylori and confirm that the H. pylori infection has been fully treated.
