Just been in A&E all afternoon after my wrist became very sore, hot and red...it also swelled a little.

This happened yesterday morning when i woke up and originally put it down to the way i slept. But the pain was excrutiating so went to GP who sent me straight to hospital.

The thing is, i got a very small rose thorn in my finger....on the same hand as the infection, on monday. Is this a potential cause of the problem. I've been a profesional gardener for 31 years and never had probs before.

What treatment have you had, hammerman?
It could be. You have some sort of infection there. They've obviously given you some antibiotics? There isn't always an obvious wound with cellulitis, but it sounds a likely cause.
You've spent all afternoon in A&E?
Presumably you have received treatment to address the injury and information you provided to the A&E personnel.
You are asking in AB about an injury you received some days ago?
Did you mention this injury at the hospital today?
I've has cellulitis twice, it's beyond excrutiating, so I empathise.

Once was a scrape in a swimming pool, the bacteria got in, the other was post op.

It's just one of those things, I assume you're now on antibiotics?

I'd say 100% the thorn was enough to let in the germs. The scrape on my foot was minimal.Post op was a different scenario...

Keep it clean, do what you're told and you'll be fine in a few days.

On flucloxacillin 4 times a day.

Eccles, thank you for your answer but please don't treat me like im a 2 year old
PS....I didn't get treatment for a week so don't be too harsh on Hammerman, if you can't see a wound and you're not the type to run to the Docs then you do try and treat it yourself...like myself.
Any little thing can cause an infection and lead to cellulitis hammerman .
A bit of dirt gets in and away it goes .I had it in my leg caused by mossie bites which I scratched .Antibiotics should clear it up .
It's very painful .Keep the area clean and watch it doesn't ulcerate ...like mine did :(
Well, it may well be cellulitis and your treatment of antibiotics would confirm this...BUT.....Gout should also be considered a the two sometime may be difficult to differentiate.

Monitor the situation over the next 48 hours.
I can understand why you didn't go to the doctors with a rose thorn in your finger. You'd feel really daft wouldn't you. Most of us would self treat until it got too bad for us to cope with. I hope it doesn't prevent you from working, hammerman. Wear your gloves!
