I have always wanted to visit Italy so i'm going at the end of September for my birthday but I can't decide on which part, I want beautiful views, close to the sea, hopefully where it will be warm, I want to see the culture and do loads of relaxing and sightseeing, I also don't want to spend loads and loads of money, I've been looking at the Amalfi Coast?. Where would you recommend? Any accomodation ideas? Thanks

starb: My boyfriend returned from two months of studying abroad in Italy this past May...of all the places he visited he raved and raved about one particular city and it is an island called Capri! He would tell you you're missing something amazing if you don't go to Capri...and I saw his pictures...they are so beautiful that it was like looking at a postcard everywhere you turn!

Venice, although rather spoilt now and hideously expensive, is still a must see, IMO. I would recommend that you DONT go to Rimini, which is a total dump.
One of my best holidays was in Tuscany - the scenery is breathtaking. We stayed on the coast at a lovely resort called Forte de Marmi.  We visited the whole area,  I would recommend Florence, Pisa, Siena, Luca and San Gimignano.   It is just beautiful !!
i worked in italy for a few months and the most beautiful region is without a doubt tuscany.no matter where you stay you will be surrounded by the best that nature and architecture has to offer.
I think you're right, starb21 - go to Amalfi or anywhere on that stretch between Naples & Salerno. Che bella!
Rome though nice and containing all the sites it isn't really a good example of the real Italy. Go to Naples to get a real feel for the Country and have a pizza in a family run taverna, you won't forget it!
