I need to return once, sometimes twice, to properly finish. What's going on down there?

Could be an enlarged prostate. Have you mentioned it to your doctor?
It's your age sandy and with it a degree of prostate trouble.
See your GP.......probably no big deal.
You should maybe pop along to the doc, get your plumbing checked.

Better safe than sorry and all that.
No 'maybe' about it, sandy. Get to your docs a.s.a.p. Whatever it is, the sooner it's diagnosed, the better.

OK. Thanks all. I'll make an appointment in the New Year.
Still 17 left in this one, sandy.
17 days, of course:-) Best of luck.

Pop along sooner rather than later Sandy, don't want interruptions over the Festive season do you, so strike while the iron's hot.
Lol @ woofgang
yes, as well as advice, i thought it worked on many levels....hope it made you smile sandy...do go to the GP BEFORE christmas
sooner if possible, take a urine sample with you to gp he/she may ask you to lie on your side! listen for the twang of rubber gloves, :)
it even has a name

pis-en-deux

see GP
make sure the doctor has warm hands and plenty grease, they normally give you a tissue as it may bring tears to your eyes.
Will you listen to these guys, we turn up and there's Stirrups (never seen a horse there yet) , He dons a Miners helmet complete with lamp, gathers his crampons and pitons - then produces what to all the world appears like a stainless steel ice cream scoop.

Now that lot is eye watering.

Seriously Sandy - likely nothing much but go get it checked out.
I have similar sandy, I have a pee then 5 min later want to finish it.
I had blood in my urine 4/5 months ago and when I saw consultant he said I had a large prostrate after examination and my PSA was high.

Two weeks later blood test showed it had dropped to normal, and I have another test next Tuesday, where I will ask him about this peeing thingy and see what he says.

Don't delay it, see doc soon, and it only takes a quick prod to see if the prostrate is large, and as said by Anne take a sample with you to save time.
sandy, you could always chicken out and just wear dark trousers, get a doctors appointment asap, soonest seen, soonest fixed.
Good morning sandy,

I have just read all the answers and many, if not all suggest that you see your GP BEFORE Xmas and some might even suggest that if you don't, you might not even see Xmas.

Could i put a realistic assessment of your condition, which may or may not help you?

The most commonest cause is your age, with or without a degree of enlargement of the prostate, with no suggestion of cancer.

The second commonest is enlargement of the prostate, again with no suggestion of cancer.

Going down the list concerning frequency of causes is cancer of the prostate.

If it is cancer then 80% are cured with or even without treatment.

Right at the bottom of the list is the 20% of cancers that are difficult to treat and have a poor prognosis.

I may have misread the posts in the thread indicating GP referrals as "asap" and "sooner than urgent" and if i have then forgive me.
Just a warning Sandy - the chances are you will be offered a PSA test. This is just a blood test but requires no sex for 2 days before the test. If you can abstain before you see the doctor it might save yiu a second visit just to have the blood taken. All-in-all no big deal and it will put your mind at ease.

I'll phone my doctor this morning to make an appointment. It's likely he'll see me before Christmas, but any referral he makes won't take place until sometime in the New Year.
It's reassuring to hear that it's probably nothing more serious than the onset of decrepitude. Thank you all. :-)
