I've just had surgery- a minor thing, and had to put on these pressure stockings which I've been told to keep on for 48 hours. My calves and ankles are way too fat for them despite them being XL- the biggest size. Now one leg is really hurting from the pressure of the stocking. Do I keep it on and risk damaging my leg in a different way? It looks like a pork leg when you tie strong round it. I know there are risks if I take it off, but can I do that so long as I try and keep my leg moving?

Yes.

I had general anaesthetic a few hours ago so not sure if I should take more pain killers yet?
I didn't know that a general aneasthetic was regarded as a "painkiller."

Do what you feel is right.

Yes, I think they gave me some sort of numbing spray and I took 3 pills beforehand, but can't remember what they were although they did tell me. One was an anti-sickness pill.
