I shall be starting my annual fast on Monday the 6th, the ninth year in a row.

Benefits: weight loss, giving the liver a wee bit of a rest and detox, effect on sleep.

Cost: no wine particularly - beers and ciders are only occasional to begin with, spirits I hardly touch..... The social side doesn't worry me. Alternatives for me are 'Adam's Ale,' non-alchy ginger beer or beer, lime and soda...any other suggestions for good non-sweet and non-alchy drinks?

Any of you wanting to join me? I can also let you have a throw-away e-mail if you want support off line.....

The principle works on self-honesty, a bit like playing golf.... If you have a genuine reason for a one/two day break, such as a christening or wedding, so be it, not going to deny you that. However, otherwise, I would propose a £10 note for any infraction to go to the charity of your choice - or if you want a suggestion - to the RNLI, Mountain Rescue or MacMillan nurses.

thanks Canary - last coffee of the day is before two, as the oils get me and having sold the solvents for decaffination, I won't drink decaf! Tea is an option and in warmer climes, iced tea was a very good option, slice of lemon....
When I'm detoxing I drink water with loads of ice and PLJ............
DTC - not sure if you've seen the TV adverts, but many people - including our Nibble - have already signed up for the Dryathon, being sponsored for Cancer Research. They pay £20 a day forfeit if they fall off the wagon for any reason. Nibble's currently on Day 2, having started at 00.01 on 1st January....
i love cordials with fizzy waters but its worth getting the really nice ones

elderflower with fizzy water, green bottle do a good one and i like their ginger and lemon grass cordial.

there is another they do scottish raspberry and lemon and that is lush

do you like herb teas? i'm on cherry and cinnamon at the mo and that is nice hot or cold
They look tasty mccfluff, think I'll try some of those.

Thanks all - been out getting the ivory woman to have a look at the mater's crumbling shark teeth - need a glass of wine I think.

Well done, nibble, I heard about this on R4 this morning......I'll go for the 6th to the whatever it is in Feb and, if anything like last year is to go by, I went to the last week Feb, the break being for a game cuisine night at one of the locals, since fallen out of favour with the place as the owner is a right pr.. and has a habit of pissing we locals off. He's nicknamed Basil.

Anne - thanks, no fan of Irn Bru but the aldi ginger beer...mmmm and for the cordials, fluffy. I do up the water intake, especially around the end of week 1 which is probably when you feel the change going on, the old dark-burgundy organ spitting out the nasties.....and yes the need for the JThomas goes up a lot!

just think of the benefits of six alcohol free months or more even?
I'm in Ireland....not a hope in hell ;-)
