Are Learner Drivers Tested On Mirrors Or Screens?

In the good auld days we used to have wing mirrors and a rear-view mirror stuck to t'inside roof.

Nowadays, are learner drivers tested on mirrors or rear-view screens when reversing?

Reason for asking - I'm with a car club. Our latest replacement car (Toyota) had a reversing camera. It was weird!

I stuck with using the rear-view mirror.

When I bought my last brand new car, (rav4) I had the option of built in GPS which had a reversing camera. It was in the tester so I tried it out on the test drive. Totally weird, because its NOT a mirror image. Ive got the sensors that beep though, wouldn't be without them!

I think learners are taught to turn round and look over their shoulder when reversing.

it depends for me, I have a good old look around when I reverse but the combination of a high seat back and a dodgy neck mean that my view is better if I use mirrors than actually turning around. I think that many car seats are higher in the back now than they used to be and of course headrests are more substantial. If I am reversing into a space, its much easier to get the white lines and cars in my mirrors than it is to actually look at them, I can see both sides just with eye movement.

yes, when i was taught, it was "turn right round, get you arm over the back of the seat, steer with one hand and LOOK backwards...nowadays I think you are taught that you should keep both hands on the wheel which makes turning around and looking over the shoulder harder

Top view goes a step further and combines the images of 4 cameras to give a birds eye view of the car....a fantastic aid for reversing...if used with common sense.
