I would quite like to get this done (I know about age restrictions etc) and I was just wondering if it hurt, how long it is big/painful for, how much it costs and whether the hole is noticable once the piercing is taken out. Thanks

I have had mine 10 years now, it does not hurt, but most peoples tongue swell up, and eating ice cream, sucking ice cubes and washing mouth out with Listerine 3 or 4 times aday helps. When the swell goes down (usually 5 days) you go back to the piercer who will swap it for a more snug fittibg bar. I have never taken mine out so don't know the answer to it being noticed. The price varies from region and piercer but I reckon on 30 average
it doesnt hurt getting it done although i found it a real hassle afterwards and im sorry to say mines didnt last too long ,the first thing i tried to eat was a cuppa soup and i ended up with the bar getting caught in my teeth whilst trying to supp the bloody soup and it kinda ripped a wee bit and was bleeding so i just took it out . i dont have any marks on my tongue now but i do have a wee lump that you can feel underneath my tongue.

oh and avoid things like vinegar/salt whilst healing

I considered having my tongue peirced once. But when I learnt that it could damage the enamel on your teeth when the metal bar hits them, it put me off!

I haven't had mine done but a friend at work had hers done a couple of weeks ago.  Her tongue swelled up and she couldn't eat solids for about 5 days, was on liquids only and she couldn't speak properly.

She couldn't go back to the piercer to get the bar changed for 10 days because it was still swollen and she has said that if she knew how much it hurt (pain was afterwards, I don't think the piercing itself was that painful) then she would never have had it done.

Although saying that, I think all is ok now.

the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body, so if you take it out it will close up within a couple of hours. you've been warned!!
I didn't think having it pierced hurt at all but it did indeed swell a bit and was painful for 5 days afterwards.  Eating was difficult and I lisped a bit!  I didn't get my bar changed down for quite a few weeks as there was still a little bit of swelling according to the piercer - although I couldn't tell.  I recently took mine out for about three hours to have surgery and the hole wasn't noticeable at all - and in response to what janelle said, I got the bar back in afterwards with no problems at all.

I found that eating solids was just plain weird for a few days afterwards.

The main bug bear with it was the speech impediment that it gave me for a good 5 days after i'd had it done! So if you have to talk to anyone (at work) i'd definitley take some time off!
