Will Petroleum jelly help soften and soothe large plaques of psoriasis? Despite being well moisturised they are extremely itchy and appear to be cracking despite being quite smooth plaques.

You can only give it a try Eccles. Petroleum jelly is my new find for putting on my skin at night, too shiny obviously for daytime wear, but it's so cheap, large tub from the pound shop & my skin really is much softer for using it!
It could help hold moisture in say after a bath or shower, as long as the skin isn't broken.
I do not have psoriasis, but my skin is extremely dry at times. I put vaseline on at night and it works wonders. Worth a try.

Thanks all. Any particular reason to not use it on broken skin?
My brother in law has started using Argan oil and he's pleased with the results at this early stage.
I had psoriasis really badly for years and years. The only thing that made a difference was the sun. Mines all gone now.
The sun is the best natural cure for psoriasis.

Other components with curative properties are ginger, turmeric and oily fish / fish oils.
I used to get sunbeds on the NHS.
I use Diprobase emollient cream for eczema, perhaps that might help.
They still prescribe that, Ummmm, if they are unable to provide photodynamic therapy themselves. The downside to that is the risk of basal cell carcinoma at a later stage.

If psoriasis is refractory to topical ointments and fails to clear completely with intense light therapy, DMARDs (disease-modifying therapy) would then be considered.
I have been using Eve. Primrose oil capsules. One 1000mg each day does the trick. I haven't had any signs of psoriasis or eczema now for several years. When I stopped taking the EPO for a couple of weeks, it all came back. sooooo it really does work. Unless you can afford to lie in the sun all day every day, EPO is an excellent remedy I recommend it. I have now managed to cut down my intake of EPO to twice a week and the problems have still never recurred. Good luck eccles xx
