I don't know if they still do it but the Salvation Army used to help people in similar situations to yours. Might be a good place to start.
It may state the cause of death on her death certificate which you could apply for. Even if you do not know exact dates just give as much info as you can.
causes of death on death certificates arent really .... accurate
peter, why are they not accurate ?
I'm unsure how that will help you. Whatever she died of doesn't necessarily mean you will be suffering the same fate. You couldn't even know that with a DNA comparison. What you need is a good diagnosis of whatever ails you.

And yes the death certificate isn't difficult to get hold of. Use the genealogy sites/databases to identify her, then get the details and send off for the certificate.
If you know where she died, then you can contact the local registrar for births and deaths.

I can quite understand why you need these details.
If you post your question in Genealogy, a sub-section of History, someone who has access to Genes Reunited or to Ancestry.com might be able to trace her for you. That would give you a definite date of death and an indication of where the death was registered.
But one would probably need more info than Mrs. Alinic.
Of course - but if alinic is happy to give the name here - or a throwaway email address so that investigations can be conducted privately - it shouldn't be too difficult to trace her.

good luck.
Accurate cause of death are not recorded on death certs. If you know your mums GP or hospital they could supply medical records as you are related.
