My finger didn't feel so bad yesterday so I managed to convince myself that it was getting better.

This morning it was agony and I couldn't bend it. I phoned NHS 24 and they told me to go to the out of hours centre. I am now home with some Flucloxacillin 500mg and some chocolate covered raisins to cheer me up.

Thanks for all your advice

I never knew you could get sweeties on the NHS, LOL....

Glad you have been - it sounds nasty :-(
Aww poor you :( Definitely deserves some chocolate! Hope the antibiotics clear it up soon.
Antibiotics and chocolate covered raisins are a good painkilling combination.
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
raisins have antibiotic properties too... good choice

Thanks to y'all.

I actually responded to you earlier but I was using my Kindle and my hands shake at the best of times ~ my finger jerked at the wrong moment and I ended up in a site selling dresses (aka frocks) so I gave up.

I have to give NHS Tayside 15/10 for their performance.

I spoke to a handler who got someone to phone me back, the second person said that I would have to go to the out of hours bit at our local hospital.

I was given an appointment for this and when I got there I was seen almost immediately by a nurse who could prescribe drugs.

Alas my finger still hurts. The chocolate covered raisins were beautiful .
Pleased you went. Advice from strangers on the internet isn't always the best. :o)
indeed.............

You are both making a big deal over the advice concerning the treatment of a swollen finger.

I cannot see any inappropriate advice.....
Sorry...it should have been anneasquith/naomi

But ... it isquote[MY] sore finger so that makes it important to me.

To be honest I was expecting the Flucloxacillin to have started zapping the germs by now. I might have to buy something else nice to eat to see if that makes it feel better(er) :-)

Will try that again and see if it works this time.

Sqad, // I cannot see any inappropriate advice.....//

Really? Your advice was ‘I would take Ibuprofen for the pain and monitor the situation over the next 24 hours.’

She needed antibiotics.
Naomi.....I dispute that my advice was incorrect.
On the day, at the time of posting, with those symptoms, my advice was, in my opinion correct.
She has never seen a medically qualified person to this day, so how do we know that antibiotics were needed?
Sqad, read her posts. She’s seen a nurse who was qualified to prescribe drugs and she’s been given antibiotics. Your advice was incorrect and it was irresponsible. I knew from her description that it was likely her finger was infected – and so did Ratter - and neither of us claim to be a doctor!
Naomi.....LOL......
It's not funny though.
