Do I Need These Programmes

I posted a question last week about my slow computer and was given lots of advice. Thank you all. My daughter came down last Sunday and said she would sort it. She put on programs called ReginOut, Should I remove it, Google chrome and Ccleaner. I don't know what they are.Do I need them? Although I am a bit wary I have decided to change from MSE to comodo, as the little house symbol has changed from green to orange . I know I have to remove MSE first by going to add and remove programs then go on to the internet to download comodo. but should I remove the other programs my daughter put on Thank you for any advice

CCleaner is ok - it is a utility that you can use as and when you want to clear unused entries from the registry and temporary files.

Google Chrome is just another internet browser like Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I haven't heard of the other program.

Before you switch from one security program keep the current one until you have downloaded the new one.

I was told that having one security program on your computer interferes with the downloading of new ones I am confused now Tuvok thats what happened when I tried to change to AVG

Reginout is apparently a supposed pc speed up program including registry editor. Unless you know exactly what your doing I wouldn't recommend using an automated registry cleaner, can cause more trouble than its worth. I wouldn't use it.

CCleaner is worth keeping to get rid off the dross that accumulates, although I'd be a bit wary about the registry editor, for reasons outlined above.

MSE was only changing from green to orange because it was telling you that either the definitions database was out of date, or you had not done a scan for some time. Update both of those and the 'house' should go back to green.

If you do want to change to Comodo then you can download the installation files, then remove MSE. Restart your pc then click on the installation files to install Comodo. The problem your thinking off is not to have two anti-virus programs running at the same time. Make sure you get Comodo from their website.

I have just changed from MSE to Comodo myself and was quite impressed when it found a PUP from 2yrs ago in an old backup on my usb spare drive. That PUP had survived MSE and AVG for all that time.

Personally, I would avoid anything which has a Registry Cleaner as part of its download. It is my confirmed opinion that Registry Cleaners are dangerous and can cause irreparable damage to a computer's Operating system.

In my opinion, you should remove everything which has been put on by your daughter and stick with MSE ,unless you have a definite reason to remove it. Should you have a reason, it could be worth trying Comodo.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Google Chrome or Ccleaner, the other one needs removing ASAP.

hans... seems that just your opinion as texted you before on this, cc cleaner is a very safe clutter remover and reg cleaner

Registry cleaners can cause problems which is why I've always initially tested them immediately after I do a disc image backup. Most are fine but the last that I found to cause problems is Glary Utilities which gets recommended quite often (not on AB). The 2 that I use regularly these days are ASC and CCleaner and, whilst they are not strictly necessary, I'm into computer housekeeping so am happy to carry on using them.

Ccleaner has always done the job for me. I have my window firewall on all the time so I don't know if that helps.

I built my own PC and take care of all family computer problems, does that class as techie?
