Kidneys.....

I have a small swelling in a kidney, discovered when I had a scan for kidney stones ( I haven't got any..)and my appointment to see the consultant is in 10 weeks......there is no pain and I assume that,had the doctor been worried, the consultation would have been scheduled for an earlier date.

But, what causes the swelling ? I would like to know more before I see the doc in 10 weeks....
