Curly Wee

We had Curly Wee for years in the Cape Argus in Cape Town and, I guess, other Argus Group papers around the country.
If I recall correctly, the text of the two-frame cartoon was in rhyme. When it was stopped I cannot remember, and I had never thought about it until now, while reading a friend Audrey Wood's memoirs, "Growing up Beneath the Southern Cross". Audrey, now living in Victoria, Canada, spent part of her childhood in Mbabane, Swaziland. She writes: "When I felt [sad] I would read one of my favourite books and that was Curly Wee. Dad first introduced me to Curly Wee: it was a daily strip in the newspaper. He later bought me this book. Curly Wee was the heroic Pig that had the most awesome adventures. Curly Wee was the good guy, the gentleman, whereas the Fox and the Rat were scoundrels. Curly Wee spent most of the time saving the weak and the helpless from these scoundrels." That was about 1945; her parson dad was rector of St Mark's, Mbabane.
