I am generally an early riser, even on my days off I am usually up before 08.00 if I stay in any later I feel really crappy like I haven't slept at all.
I often have a 15 minute cat nap during the day. Today we took the hounds for a walk and then popped in out local for a swift pint and then had a nap when we got home. I slept really deeply for half an hour. This was around 3.00 pm and I still feel really crappy 7 hours later.
I've often wondered about this. I'd kill for more than 6 hours sleep...but when I get it I feel rubbish all day. As for naps sometimes I'm refreshed...others I feel off and grumpy for hours.
I think it probably disrupts your body clock and everything slows down when you're asleep..unless you really need extra sleep. On the very rare occasions i sleep in the day, i usually feel worse after for a while.
Hi Ratter,Ive lost count of the number of times Ive woken up early and felt like I could have surfaced and then dropped back off again only to feel crappy when I have to get up...
There's some interesting stuff there re: REM and NREM sleep, Circadian rhythms, optimal amount of sleep and naps.
I sleep about 5 hours per night and very much enjoy (but rarely get) a nap in the early afternoon. The nap must be 20 minutes long (no more nor less) or it's no good.
I'm going with the REM thing, however I have never felt like that when waking up in bed, even if I get woken up after a short time, only when napping on the sofa.
When I wake up in the mornings, I instantly get out of bed as soon as my eyes are open and I feel great! I cant lie in bed if I am awake, I make a very bad patient when ill, if I am awake I have gotta be out of bed or I get bloody miserable.
I`ve been up since 6am yesterday but I did sleep for 3 hours last night (two sleep cycles) so I don`t feel too bad. I`m off to bed in a minute but the same time - 3 hours only - and then hopefully that`ll keep me going until tonight.
