Silly Girls, Shoplifting

I hace just witnessed a shoplifting incident in Lidl. As I was going in I noticed two seventeenish year old girls hanging about and had to say excuse me to get past them. Once in the shop, I noticed another girl, standing by the entrance door with a sewing machine in her hands. I thought it was odd that she hadn't got a trolley. I saw her look over to the tills and carried on. I picked up a loaf and out of the corner of my eye saw her go out through the entrance door.

I ran over to the tills and asked them to call security. Three blokes appeared and went out through the exit door to find them. I ran back to the entrance to go out and help them identify her and the alarm went off! I only had a loaf! Why didn't the alarm go off when she went through the entrance door?

They spotted her getting into a car and took the registration number. They thanked me and said she would have been caught on the CCTV.

Silly, silly girls. The sewing machine was £79.99

Did they let you have the loaf for free as a reward ?.
Question Author
No, Yont, they didn't.
A stitch in time and they should serve nine......
tut tut, shame on them then, after you have probably saved them £79.99p.

I wasn't expecting a free loaf. It was all rather exciting!
in my local Lidl Tilly the alarm sounds if you take the shopping basket out of the store !! maybe that was why it went off when you only had a loaf !!
Question Author
Why did the alarm not go off, when she went through the door but when I tried, it did? I had a loaf. Do they have security tags on them?
Question Author
Sam, thank you. Now I know.

A bottle of wine then, Yilly ;-)
Maybe the basket set it off rather than the products?

I've reported a few before now. One prompted a tannoy announcement as to whether the lads going through the till would like to take the chocolate out of their pockets. There was a gang of them going in and thieving stuff.
I'd go and ask the manager tomorrow if they need a witness statement - and a 'oh and how does a customer, who does this, get rewarded, then?'

Free bottle of vino, a bloody case I would think.
They are not silly. They are criminals who almost certainly conduct their lives in this way as a habit. They will flog the machine for a tenner secure in the knowledge that (a) they are unlikely to be caught and (b) even if they are they will probably be offered either a caution or, at worst, an £80 fixed penalty (less than you get for speeding).

There's nothing silly about their behaviour at all.

Have you tried Lidl wine, DTC?
Question Author
They looked like three 'nice, middle class girls.' Well dressed and not at all 'chavvy' That is why I think they were silly. Why get a criminal record in such a stupid way?

waits, for the fall-out!
It has always amazed me the risks people will take to steal really stupid things.
Many years ago , I worked in a cake factory,
We had a factory shop, where we could buy overmakes or wonky cakes for ridiculous prices,
You could get a six portion jam and fresh cream sponge cake for 10p, or a large 18 portion gateau for £2.
Every day I would watch the idiots hiding cakes inside their overalls as they left, risking their jobs and their reputations for 10p, unbelievable.
They sound as if they were organised and experienced, Tilly. But they didn't count on you!
The most common places I see shoplifters (see a lot being dragged back in store, police out etc...) are the cheaper stores, mainly a discount bargain store and Primark.

They even had a security guard in a local craft shop last time I went in to get knitting supplies!?!?!
If Lidl wine is as good as Aldi wine, tilly, it'll be nice.
a few, tilly, mainly bordeauxs and sauv blancs and I would say, 'okay'......
Well done...we need more people like you Tilly !
