Wounds That Won't Heal On The Foot

My elderly mum's foot has severe cracks and crusted skin. I am booking her an appointment at the GP tomorrow. But wondered if anyone had any advice. She is 82 and has poor mobility particulary in this leg (an old broken knee) where the foot is bad. The other foot which is her good leg is fine. I'm wondering if its a circulation problem. The ankle is rock hard.

GP should refer her to a podiatrist who can sort cracks & crusty soles. Easy, painless work, quickly solved.

I am not sure that your GP will have anything to offer as this problem is quite common in old people. She may well have "circulation trouble" but it has nothing to do with her foot problem.

I agree with tambo here.....a podiatrist is the answer.

I get this sometimes, foot balm applied regularly helps considerably. Ask the GP to refer her to the podiatry service (as has been suggested) - she doesn't need hospital, this is not an unusual condition.

Thanks guys, she has a chiropodist comes to the house, maybe I should ask her to try and tackle this, as she seems to concentrate on her toes

calendula cream for the cracked and crusted skin. Apply it before bed and first thing in the morning... It works wonders
