I have really bad pains in my eye/eyelid. Can anyone please help? Can't get in with my GP or optician for 2 weeks.

My mums recovering from cancer and is in the same boat, cant get an app. for 2 wks with GP and is in some discomfort and pain. Discusting. Walk in centre or A&E

I must be incredibly lucky with my GP surgery.

Is it because our usual GP is on holiday? This happened to me but I was happy to be seen by a locum at the surgerywithin 3-4 days

regarding opticians, all high street opticians have walk in appointments

Thanks all. There is no drop in nearby and I can't go to a&e as my daughter is in bed. I will harass my gp's secretary tomorrow. Was just hoping someone could give me an idea of what if might be. Thank you again x

My usual GP is working but fully booked. I won't get an emergency appointment as it's been a problem for over a week.

An optician is a person who shapes lenses according to prescription, fits them into frames, and adjusts the fit of the frames for you: they are not qualified to diagnose or prescribe.

Opticians employ optometrists, who examine eyes, and diagnose and prescribe, accordingly.

OH had something similar and phoned surgery for appointment and, because they use a Triage system a nurse called back in about 20 mins and on hearing the problem told to go straight to Surgery. Doc horrified, made immediate appointment to Eye surgery at local hospital. Diagnosed as Blepharitis, forget the name of what the doc thought it was except he said could be blind in days. Don't wish to worry you but...You really do need to go to A&E.

The word that you are looking of is ....glaucoma.

The problem of the OP doesn't sound like glaucoma, but more like...blepharitis.

Pete65, you'd better not that tell an optometrist that he/she is hired by an optician:). An optometrist, here in Ontario anyway, is a Doctor of Optometry (O.D. after their name), and have specialized training. They are qualified to perform eye examinations, prescribe lenses, and, if necessary, forward you on to an ophthalmologist. A optician is a technician who "make' lenses and fits them into frames.
