Firstly, having done some chores, slipped into town for a coffee. A 'friend' walks in, someone I could have done without. Her hubby works in Saudi and is back over; she has a Brit/Italian bf who has been working in Benin - yes - she has been scammed before and made the paper, a substantial amount of brass.

"I need £5k to pay my warehousing bills on my oil equipment and then I can ship it back to the EU. Love you and we'll buy a million pound house in Cornwall, horse rearing and all that. Oh, and by the way, I have the money in a Paris account but need to be back to release it."

She's just moved and asked me a couple of weeks ago to act as a garantor on a loan. No way, rather that he ought to ask his landlord where they wanted to be paid and arrange according with a Swift - and just to go into Socgen or BNP in Benin. Stupid woman gets £5k from HSBC and sends. Has she been repaid yet no.

Then today, "I'm in Turkey and they won't let me out until I have paid a Muslim for rent - I need to get to London in person and release the money. Will you come out, as well? " £10k.

Well, tell sunshine get to a Brit/Itai consulate for a letter of attestation, then to a Santander in Constantinople or Istanbul and present your papers. And don't go out there.

Having got through this, it made me 20 mins late in calling the Alzheimer's mater to tell her to bathe, she having a dental appt for a filling this afternoon. Two mall calls and no joy on her picking up the blower. Come back and there's no sign of her anywhere.

She has wandered before, twice, but never the morning. My thinking, it's tied to the dental appointment. So a search down the back lane into the city, no joy but run into the wife of one of the local pubs - she went back one of the routes and out texts out.....

I cover two other roads and no joy. Call the police, the first time that I have had to do this. 1.38pm in she comes in a panda car, the young hunk of an officer and charming having found her coming out of the woods 2/3rs up the original road, no idea of who or where she was - until about 400 yards out.

So - then the dentist - 11 times in 20 minutes, "Why are we here" - the only 'good news' in this is that she pulled a groin muscles so that's her limited for the next two or three days! The bad news is that the officer and I reckoned that she went down the lane, straight on at a junction and then a path up and through the woods - woods where a Newquay man, with the big A was found dead a month after he went missing, two years or so ago. Despite the searches, choppers and heat detectors, they couldn't find him. It took a walker with a dog and he was only 7 yards off the path in the undergrowth......

Anything else today perhaps? I hope not.

Has your day been good? I hope so.

First bit of your post refers to 'a friend,' doesn't sound like a friend to me.

Good luck anyway.

why I put quote marks around the word, corylus. I have ducked out of two subsequent dinner invites, one yesterday at short notice for a bbq. I pity her hubby (who is over here at the moment) and is having the wool pulled over his eyes.
Wow. Thought my day was hectic. Hope you can sit down with a (strong) drink soon xx
Nothing dramatic here, and I wouldn't wish for a day like that.

Glad Mum is safe and sound, take care.x
What planet does she live on?
^^ omg. I thought you were talking about his mum for a minute!

The worst thing is that I have put myself on an Adams Ale diet, except when I am out in a pub, friends or at my sisters.......could do with a glass of vino but I won't. Lost about 4 pounds already - in 2 weeks.
Question Author
lol, you two.....it's a good question for either of them!
Hope it gets better DTC

The lady with the variety of fortunes only she needs £10k to unlock it/them,
keep away from.

tomorrow will be better
DT ~ can you not get your mum to wear some sort of GPS thing?

Or an ankle bracelet like the courts issue?

wolf, that may be the conclusion - there's a meeting shortly with the local Seniors Mental Health Unit down here.
Won't be long until humans are microchipped;-). Had a slightly odd day. A client had a fall last night, not too bad, but slight ache in back. He had a doctor's appointment already booked for this morning anyway. Got there to find a random neighbour had decided to cancel his appointment... (not through client's choice, either).
DTC, thinking of you and hoping you get some help. Take care of yourself xx
Blimey DT, give her the boot ( not mom ). That sounds a good idea of wolfs, I also was at the dentists this afternoon wish I had got lost.
Would she respond to a note on the back of your front door, saying "wait for me" or similar? Has worked a charm for a few of our " wanderers" in the past.
Question Author
Thanks for that, pixie, will try that.....
Good luck x
What a day DTC! The 'friend' needs a friendly word, - like 'don't ask me darling have you seen the price of coal nowadays'? - what a con artist. Bet you were frazzled by the time your ma turned up. What is the Big A? Hope you are Ok now and your poor Mater. My day has been like wading through treacle compared to yours.
sorry to hear all this DTC. Do hope that things improve soon. know how you feel and personally I think you are doing a wonderful job. best wishes.
DT I hope by now you have a glass in your hand like me ! this "friend" must be a con artists dream come true, in one way she must be very lonely whilst her hubby is away earning dosh and this makes her lonely & gullable, a quiet word with hubby if you know him might put a stop to her giving away his hard earned cash.
Latest scam is about getting your confidence and the new "boy friend " sending over gold bars for your future together, pictures are sent of the gold bars in Heathrow customs, the customs get in touch with a genuine looking oficial e mail and supposedly say we need 9K for the duty and we will deliver to your address, apparently its very convincing .
I hope you get the needed help soon with mum.
