I've not tried the alcohol free one, but used the spray version a few years ago and found it had only a very slight effect (it was more of a reassurance to have it to hand if anything). But the recipe may have changed since then.
My best 'calming' remedy has been to use 'Celestial Seasonings, Sleepy Time Herbal tea' (from sainsburys)which has chamomile in it (I hate herbal tea, but it works well so I'm willing to swill it down).
All the best
(oh yes, tried 'Kalms' too - useless but different people find different things work for their anxiety, so best to try a few and see what works for you) :o)

I have used Rescue Remedy several times and it is pretty expensive for such a small size. However, I personally didn't think it did anything for me, still was anxious.
Kalms heightened the anxiety. What I use now and again is Sominex - you can buy it over the counter - it does help me to sleep.
If you are extremely anxious why don't you go to your GP.
