Ear Problem

For a while now I have been getting some sort of discharge from both ears. perhaps discharge is not the right word because it is a dry white powdery substance which appears each morning after I've been asleep;I try to wash it away and scrape it off with my fingernails which helps but it doesn't solve the problem.Could this be earwax as suggested by friends who recommend various types of ear drops to alleviate the problem. I do have a slight hearing problem when in a crowded place; I am more aware of people around me and talking loudly so that I can't hear the person who is talking directly at me and sometimes the sounds are muffled like talking underwater? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I dont know, the only ear problem here is boom boom boom from the sports club party. Gun shots might sort it?
You do not mention if it is itchy or if you have any skin problems elsewhere, e.g eyebrows.
My guess is that this is a localised skin problem called seborrheic dermatitis, not a serious problem but can be cured by steroid drops or ointment.
See your GP.
Dry skin was my guess. But you could get your GP to look at it and put your mind at rest.

Thank you all for your replies. Tamborine, no gunshots around here, all oldies. Squad and OG,I guess it could be a skin problem it's not itchy but I do get a lot of what I thought was dandruff from my eyebrows.I'll get it checked out. Thanks again. Sog.
