Eating Animals
47 Answers
would you eat the flesh of an animal that you have never ate before?
I happily eat pork, beef, chicken, lamb and fish but a local supermarket has started selling kangeroo, crocodile and ostrich meat (amongst other delecicies such as garlic snails). I dont know what it is but I couldnt stand the thought of eating meat, other than what Im used too. Why is that? I'll happily try anything new if its plant based....fruit, veg, salad...but feel sick at the thought of eating a crocodile burger. In the same way, I couldnt eat a duck egg but love (chicken) eggs.
Could you eat a kangeroo steak or an ostrich sandwich?

I don't like organs and eyeballs and that sort of thing though. I also prefer Duck Eggs or goose eggs to hens eggs, it's just organs I can't sand the thought of but I do like Pate, so I'm weird in that respect.
I tried ostrich the other week it was on special at Aldi -did not like it it had a weird texture like sponge. Frogs legs are ok but its the garlic butter that makes them nice. Same with sweetbreads ordered them once in Paris and they were ok but it was the sauce that was nice. I would draw the line at snails, bugs and worms.
Ostrich meat is great and virtually fat free. I have tried crocodile but did not like it.
Why say you will eat some animals but not others , why not eat dog and cat they do in China !
nalit I guarantee that if you were given an ostrich burger but told it was beef ,chicken or turkey you would eat it without complaint.

I've not had the opportunity to taste crocodile, but have very much enjoyed kangaroo and ostrich. I love trying new things, and would pretty much eat or cook anything once. Duck eggs are lovely, nailit. So much meatier in taste.
Forget about the cuddly, cutesy pictures you see of animals when it comes to eating. I don't feel any more guilty tucking into a more exotic animal than I do a chicken. I remember feeling a pang of guilt many years ago when served meat at a dinner party, only to find out afterwards that it was horse. But the deed had been done, the food had been eaten and enjoyed.

Thanks for interesting replies. Ive got no moral issue with eating anything and I always like to try anything once. Its not the moral issue or the taste or anything I can put my finger on, I just cant bring myself to eat flesh that I havnt been brought up to eat. Wish I could. Tried squid a few years ago in Spain and just couldnt stomach it as part of a meal.
