Once a month, anything from 3 days up to a week.I turn into a total she devil and its not pretty.I have the most foul temper, snap at everyone & can be totally irrational.Luckily everyone around me is very understanding,so hold no grudges.(plus the fact they tend to avoid me)But even though I know it'll pass, sometimes the feeling that I'm going to 'explode' is unbearable.I've heard that certain foods &/or supplements can help..So if anyone knows of any 'miracle' cures, please do share..

A healthy diet can make a big difference to your moods. Try cutting out all sugary and fatty things, were just not built to digest these things and so they can have some very adverse effects!!

Hi JoAnnMul. In last week's episode of you are what you eat there was a woman with the same problem as you. She ate a lot of processed and crappy food and the nutritionist changed her diet to fibre, fruit and veg. She also said she was low in zinc which emphasized the mood swings.

Obviously I have no idea to what your eating habits are but eating healthy and taking a zinc supplement worked for her so maybe you could try it for a month or so. Good luck

I take Oil of Evening Primrose EVERY day, and it has certainly helped me.
I totally sympathise Jo (can I call you that?)  I'spend 3 days every monthy like a spitting cobra, my poor son just hides from me, sadly this just means extra guilt when the sobbing stage starts. Ah the joys of being a girl lol

Thank you all for the tips,I wouldn't say my diet is totally healthy but I did catch bits of last weeks you are what you eat,& I'm no way near as bad as that..As for the zinc & oil of evening primrose, could I or should I try them together.?What foods are rich in zinc or does it have to be as 'an extra'..?
mycatis I hear what you say about your son.I have 2 boys & I'm sure I'll have put them off women for life sometimes..But hey isn't guilt what motherhood is all about lol
I found homeopathic remedies very helpful - there are different ones for different symptoms.  Have a look in Boots as they usually have a booklet thing there for you to look up which remedy would be best for you to try.
Nuts and seeds are great for zinc. And so are Oysters (blurgh!) meats, seafood and eggs.

with most supplements; vitamins and evening primrose you need to take them every day for about 3 months to get the full effect. Especially with Eve Primrose as you need to build it up in your body.

You can easily take the two supplements together, it won't do no harm. Evening Primrose is also very good for skin, hair and nails.

Mmm,something happy face said made me think..Is evening primrose something that your body can be 'lacking' then..??Because I have noticed my hair, skin & nails haven't been that great in recent months & the moods have been getting worse..Imagine after all this time the answer could be 'a tablet a day keeps the temper at bay'
Thanks again all for the advice just think not so long ago we were being told its was all in our heads..!!

I don't think your body can be lacking Evening Primrose as it's not anything the body makes itself. But it's good for you like cod liver oil is good. With what you're describing I would take the Evening Primrose for 3 months and see if you feel a difference. It's certainly won't do you no harm.

My boyfriend takes it for his eczema and it really works.

Kalms tablets. They're suberb - really mellow you out.
