What does Answerbank bring to your life?

I see it as a window on the world and encounter people and views that I wouldn't find amongst my real world life, it is also satisfying to help where I can.

Another way to pass the time.

Oh, and help with me pasties innit! ;o)
AB helps me forget about all of the things that I really ought to be doing instead!

It would be so much more rewarding to have helped in a practical sense than academically......have you found a flippin' butcher yet China?
I like to debate and I like other peoples views on various subjects. It also relieve a bit of boredom at times.
It`s useful if I want to know the answer to a practical question. I like having a nose at it when I have nothing else to do and when I drink my two cups of tea in the morning. I don`t find it a window on the world though. I think some of the opinions (particularly about race, Muslims etc) are staggeringly ignorant. Just my opinion.
I really have no idea, a very small handful of people really interest me and I've made a couple of good friends indirectly and learned quite a lot but other than that it's a conundrum.

I just love the friendly helpful informative and opinionated folks on here ;-)
AB has seen me at my lowest and my happiest and through it I have made very good friends and have someone wonderful in my life.

It is a hard place to quantify as it is so very varied - a real window on the world.

That is one of the aspects that I find so fascinating and frustrating 237, a window on a world that I simply do not see and it is not because I have my head in the sand either.

The phobic threads are ones I observe, usually with dismay.
As a carer it can be stimulating to drop in when I have a little spare time.
It's our world in microcosm people from all walks of life, all types all genders, from the hand wringing lefties to the the extreme far right, from the wonderfully nice people who grace the pages every day to the trolls, it is our world. There something here for everybody and like everything else you only get out what you put in.

Personally, I learn from it and I have a lot of fun and giggles in here but it does have it's serious side and that's important too. It's a great place to spend time
why answerbank ? because I don't watch the soaps on tv.
Question Author
You prefer reading your soap operas in Body and Soul instead Anne? ;-)
-- answer removed --
Like Anne, I don't watch much TV.

I've made, what I hope, are some lifelong friends.
I do :)
I watch EE though :-)
To paraphrase a well known singer: AnswerBank is what happens to you when you should be busy planning something else:)
I'll go for the caring line as per seadogg's - at the moment, it's a distraction to the mater reading some choral pamphlet for the 20th time in a week, mentioning the lead (opera) singer (Div 2 bassist) who she can't remember even though she had lessons with him when she was young and even invited him to the parental house when he picked her out of a massed choir when they were both in their forties. She thinks that 1988 is current!

No, apart from that, information, alternative views, good yarns and counter-comments, rebuttals etc - and yes, the downside being trollish folk, like last night when a recent regular was incredibly rude to one of our female stalwarts using the term 'hatred.' A thick skin is needed at times.
"It`s our world in microcosm". See, I don`t think it is. I think there are a lot of people on AB who have issues - mental health issues, depression, alcoholism, borderline personality, insomnia, and physical disabilities and a place such as AB is an absolute boon for them. It is a link to the world for people who might otherwise feel isolated in their day to day life. For that reason, I don`t think AB is our world in microcosm.
