50 year old female, periods stopped 3 months ago, after slowing down for about 6 months earlier, health otherwise OK so far (apart from May 2014 Diagnosis of High Blood Pressure treated with Proprolonol (40mg x 2 per day) On the whole I feel quite well, a bit fat and 50 but do i need the Menopause formally diagnosing by a GP or just accept the time is finally here (Hurrah!!), comments appreciated.
I don't think a visit to your practice nurse or GP would be a bad thing for something like a smear thest etc., if it's the change/menopause, maybe they could tlak to you about what to expect - I've been through it but everyone is different
ummmm - pretty much. Might be emotional or physical - flushes, bone thinning etc. A friend of mine got the menopause in her late 40s and never had a symptom but five years later, she has developed a prolapsed womb (she`s never had kids). Both her mother and her sister had it as well. Apparently it`s a symptom of the menopause with her and if the estrogen pessaries don`t work, she will have to have an operation. She never saw that coming.
An internal has nothing to do with proving menopause. Only blood tests for hormone levels can do that. Unless you get symptoms that bother you why go to a GP.
I was 50 when it all stopped. Oh joyous day... The only downside to it all was getting osteoporosis so I have to now take meds for that and get yearly scans.
