Just a simple question like: do you come here often etc? will get the conversation going. Plus throw in a compliment even if it sounds a bit cheesy because whatever people say, girls like a bit of cheese (although don't go all Romeo-esque, a simple you have really pretty eyes will do!) Also I know girls quite often seem to go for the confident cocky guy but actually myself and a lot of my girlfriends really like a guy that comes across slightly shy or nervous (e.g.a little blush is so cute!) really endearing because first of all it shows you don't think you're God's gift to women (which is such a turn off!) and secondly it shows you must really like the girl to build up the confidence to come and chat. But remember that in terms of just getting to know someone, whether it's a boy or a girl doesn't really make a difference. I think boys and girls are far more similar than society usually suggests. Finally, every girl is gonna like a different type of guy. Some girls hate the whole cocky thing, some find it really masculine and a real turn on (although I assure you most find it a complete TURN-OFF!) so as long as you don't say nothing and just chat about kinda boring stuff it really doesn't matter as a start. Hope all this helps x x x
Loved yellowduck's answer, agree with everything she said. Don't worry about trying to look impressive, or sound cool, just be interested in her. Most people, whatever sex, enjoy talking to someong who asks questions about them - what they're doing, what they like, what their plans are, and looks interested in the answers. People who just come up to you and start talking about themselves are a huge turn-off. Good luck.
Corny and oh so predictable but - be yourself. If in doubt, plan a few lines in your head first, and have a couple of subjects ready to talk about (not football!) in case you freeze. Yellowduck is spot on.
Suitable topics - music, films, books, mutual friends, school / college, jobs, hobbies, etc. But don't monopolise the conversation.
If you really don't know what to say, ask her questions - most women (and I include myself here!) love to talk about themselves! But if you do this - listen to what she says, don't just block it out.
You'll be fine. And I agree with yellowduck - I love shy guys. They aren't pushy, and aren't usually eyeing up someone else while they talk.
