hello. yesterday evening I poked at my ear because it was itchy then suddenly it became blocked. I just have a horrible whooshing tunnel sort of sound but cannot hear out of it at all and it has affected my balance when I get up and walk around I feel off balance and weird. would otex or other ear drops sort this out do you think?

First off I would try heated olive oil. If it's wax then the heated oil 'sometimes' melts it enough to be able to remove it.

You might have damaged the eardrum. If you put Otex in it will be agonising. Best let a doctor or practise nurse have look.

I don't know, but it is certainly worth a try for 3 or 4 days.

It sounds like wax is the problem.
As a long term user of many branded remedies I can state categorically the olive oil is far more effective for softening wax than any of the expensive stuff littering the pharmacy shelves.
I also agree with the "olive oil "posters.

I work in customer services and I'm on my feet all day, the balance problem is more debilitating than the blocked ear!

I surely hope it will take less than 3 to 4 days for my balance to return
Well, I am sorry about that....but the balance will not improve until the ear canal is clear.^^^^
Steam inhalation. I have just had 4 weeks of this and steam has done the trick.
When this happened to my ear its because there was a build up of wax and I had to have my ear syringed.....its a little bit uncomfortable but well worth it afterwards. Hope it clears soon.

Hello there, update and a Q. I have had my ears syringed and although one ear is now fine the other ear is still ringing and there is a slight numbness to it when I touch it. My hearing is also still severely impaired in that ear. The nurse said that all the wax was now gone. I have made a GP appointment for Thursday. What could be causing these symptoms?
