Blue skies and a huge great yellow sun, not an everyday phenomenon here in South Wales ! So, off with the Yorkshire Wolfhound up to the Beacons for the day....flask, sandwiches, pork pie, and dog biscuits !

I think we will go here :::::

Hope you have a good day. Wrap up well because it is likely to be a lot colder up in the Beacons than it is Swansea. Also some fog on high ground.

Thanks Hans. I am far too old and fat to scale Pen Y Fan anymore, alas !
Take umbrella, you know it wont last......

I shall take my good old mountain jacket, with Thinsulate and Gore Tex, just in case Tambo ! And Willy will have his parka on as well !
Can your Wolfhound walk far?
Question Author
About as far as I can Wolfie ! I guess about 2-3 miles, and then I start to whine and complain !
Instead of going up country, why not just have a little stroll to Abertawe.
Have a lovely day Mikey; jealous of your weather, its like winter here in East Anglia. Heavy grey cloud, cold wind and near freezing temperatures. I'll be lucky if I make it to the wheelie bin!
Maybe take along his little hoodie too! Enjoy your walk - the pair of you will sleep tonight. :-)
Question Author
Actually his Parka has a zipped-on hood, but it keeps falling over his eyes, making him bump into trees ! So we don't always use it.

Jackdaw....I feel drawn to the Mountains somehow. They can be stunning on a day like this. I feel so lucky that all this marvelous scenery is only 25 mins away from where I live. But we also have wonderful coastal scenery as well :::

For some reason the vision of a Yorkie in a Parka headbutting trees is hilarious.

Clearly you missed my little quip as Swansea and Abertawe are the same place.
i'm so jealous
Mike you have posted some beautiful pictures. We have never been to Usk just driven by on the way to Abergavenny. We will make sure we go and have a proper look next time.
Question Author
Caran...Usk, the town and the Usk Reservoir are two very different places !

The Reservoir is about 10 miles east of Brecon, up in the hills and isn't easy to find. But worth it . It where the River Usk begins.

I went up to the top of the Kymin 2 weeks ago, to the Naval Temple. What a marvelous view from the top ! I love the Forest and I would move there tomorrow if I could !
Did you have a good day yesterday Mikey? Whatsin store for today?
Question Author
Maydup...the weather yesterday couldn't have been better ! Clear blue skies, with just a few little cotton-wool clouds. We are glad we had our Parkas on, as it was a little cool but not really cold. The sun was warm on my face. Spring has finally arrived !

As it was an International day, we had the mountains to ourselves ! The fishing season hasn't started yet, so there wasn't anybody else up at the dam. Lots of celedines, primroses and crocuses out in the hedgerows. Also, hundreds of tiny little lambs, some of them maybe only a day or two old, all skipping about together. I love this time of year !

We saw 4 Red Kites, which actually isn't that unusual as there is a feeding station about 6 miles away. If any ABers live within driving distance of the Usk Reservoir, I can't recommend it highly enough.

There is a Roman Road near by, which we have walked before. Its blindingly obvious who built the road, as it is arrow-straight for miles !

All in all, a lovely day out but we both had sore paws when we came home, so we have having a lazy day today, doing important things, like the crosswords !
Please tell me that you took a photo of Yorkshire Wolfhound Willy dressed up in his parka. Is he good off the lead?

:-)

Question Author
Wolfie...no photos I'm afraid. Around the damn, he isn't so bad but I keep him on a lead when there are sheep about !

By the way, if I had a photo, how do I upload it to AB ? Is there a suitable website that I can use ?
