after being in hospital where I was given regular nebuliser treatment I was impressed with how much it improved my breathing and want one at home, can anyone tell me how they work and how much one would cost, thanks.

You first need to ask your GP if you are suitable for a home nebuliser and if they will prescribe the fluids to put in it. Some GPs (mine included) are very reluctant.
If your doctor is happy to prescribe they will probably give you a list of appropriate models or will refer you to the respiratory medicine clinic at the hospital for evaluation and advice.
Whilst it may have been very helpful,I would seek advice from your Health providers before buying one.

Some authorities will lend/lease if required - some won't.

Prices vary a lot too.
