HI i feel really uptight I was supposed to go to Manchester tonight for my nephews confirmation and I backed out of going because of racing thoughts and severe anxiety it built up inside me for 3 days and then I just couldnt get on the train I have lost a total of £90 on tickets and accommadation and I still feel really anxious it felt like adrenaline racing through me and it still is but the racing thoughts have gone probably because pressure off. I had told everyone in church I was going made a huge thing of it my parents were going to pay a cat sitter who I have had to text and tell it is all off. They have told me to accept that I cant travel and stop causing them anxiety and they will tell my brother whose son is being confirmed but part of me feels like trying again I have a room booked for friday guarenteed with debit card that if I cancel before 1pm it is ok otherwise £120 i know a bit of a risk but my parents are not being supportive in saying they will go without me and they dont want involved in any more of my travel plans they are going on friday on the train but they dont want me to go with them because they say that my anxiety will affect them thanks for everyone who tried to help. Im feeling crap and totally mortified mentally and physically exhausted should I give up?

well my suggestion would be if you don't want an evaluation from randomers on a website .... don't ask for advice from randomers on a website.
I would presume that gordie does, as he posted and asked!
237 - that could be said for most questions in B&S.
Telling someone who suffers from severe, crippling anxiety to "put up or shut up" just shows a lack of understanding of how dreadful anxiety can be. When I read Geordie's posts,I can often feel what he's feeling...my memories of the anxiety and agoraphobia I suffered with years ago are that strong.
Geordie...don't give up.instead...set yourself small goals. Its admirable to want to travel a distance by train, but you may not be ready...and that will cause setbacks. As for your parents...they can only understand if they are able to put themselves in your shoes...and most people can't. Have you ever had a look at the "no more panic" website? There's a forum like here, and a wealth of non judgemental support.
Gordie doesn't really want any advice.......he doesn't take notice of any that he is given.
I have often told Gordie to go back to his GP , as obviously anything that has been tried to help him previously either hasn't worked or the therapy/treatment has been abandoned before it could help.

That remains my main advice.
jackthehat - and you know that, do you?
You only have to read through all of his posts to see that.
jackthehat - OK. You have obviously worked that out for yourself. I`m impressed that you are able to compile a complete psychological profle from posts on an internet site.
Thankyou.
It's one of my many talents....

I do take advice sometimes I didnt send the nasty birthday card the date is passed now !!! Tempting although it was I have managed to forgive her and I feel better for it myself she is probably not bothered about what she did and said and I am not wasting any time spoiling my life over her I have forgiven her and Ive let it go a big weight off my shoulders so i do take advice probably not often but I do !!
I am very glad to read your last reply Gordie - a step in the right direction.
ah mamya, but how do you know that? after all ... you are not a trained psychiatrist, so really how can you possibly suggest its a step in the right direction ;)
ps sorry gordie for slightly hijacking your post
Did your lancaster trip go ok?
Question Author
No that didnt happen either I backed out
What has your GP suggested for your anxiety issues?
Gordie, are you still taking the antidepressants you were prescribed recently? I would perhaps not go on this trip, it's too much at the moment..practise in small stages. Go to the station, try a short journey, distract yourself and take a paper bag to calm yourself. It worked before, you can control it then. Just do it in smaller stages and don't be too hard on yourself xx
I am sorry you feel unable to go. I know that feeling well, only you can really know if you think you can manage it. If you feel unable to go, please don't beat yourself up over it. You have been given some good advice on here, doing things in small steps is a good beginning. I agree with Pasta, the no panic website is very helpful.

If you do manage to go you deserve a nice treat. It is always difficult for people who don't suffer to understand your situation, it is hard for them too.
gordie, maybe posting on AB helps you a bit, but, as far as I am aware there are no psychiatrists/psychologists who frequent AB maybe seek medical assistance?
Along with many others here, I have great sympathy for people who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.
However.....you do have to make an effort to change things, Gordie , or they will stay the same.
Going to your GP for advice for example would be a start.
Setting yourself small achievable goals would also help.
You have to try to get a hold of yourself and try to change your life.
Whilst people can suggest lots of techniques for helping with anxiety and panics at the end of the day it is you who has to square up to it and make the changes. You don't have to do it all at once, it can be gradual.
You have to help yourself. Nothing else will work.
If you keep on doing what you've been doing, you'll keep on feeling how you've been feeling.
