drinking and penicillin

can i drink alcohol at the same time as taking penicillin for a sore throat?

Not only will it make you feel a little strange but it will also reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotics.

Give yourself a break and have a weekend off the pop to get better!

Obviously some circumstances are unique, but generally alcohol may irritate your stomach if taken with penicillin V, so use it with moderation.

I would personally avoid the brew and hope my throat gets better quicker.

If it doesnt say avoid alcohol on the prescription label then have a wee tipple.I have had medication which says specifically 'Avoid Alcohol' and I have.

Its up to you but I dont know anyone who doesnt take a wee drink when on anties.Just dont go daft.

thanks for the advice...i had a few shandies and was fine in the end, no side-effects as yet, so for anyone else who has a peruse of this topic in future, it was ok for me...
